Oscar Wilde's delightful comedy, "The Importance of Being Earnest," will be presented at the high school auditorium this Tuesday evening, at 8 o'clock as a benefit for the Hendersonville City Library.
The play is being directed by Mrs. Fred S. Justus and the cast is composed of local young people who have appeared in other productions here. The library board is sponsoring the play.
In this play, Wilde combines his characteristic cleverness of lines and actions with a very amusing plot, the comedy of the play being derived from amusing situations and extremely clever lines, written as only the incomparable Oscar Wilde could write them.
The cast of characters is headed by James Ward, in the role of Jack Worthing, a typical, serious minded Englishman. Playing opposite Mr. Ward is Miss Septima Twyford, as Gwendolyn Fairfax, sophisticated daughter of an English nobleman. George Fain is cast as Algernon Moncrieff, the antithesis of Worthing, a cynical, carefree young wastrel, who as the play states, "has nothing but his debts."
