Full Text

Judging from Superintendent Boyd's report Maui needs immediate attention from a special session of the Legislature.

The use of Harold M. Sewall's name in connection with the Governorship fight now going on in Washington is made without authority from him.

The Grand Jury called in Hawaii that does not declare "the Governor can do no wrong" is immediately dubbed a political jury surrounded by a political judge. It is strange indeed what a wild defense the Thurston-Dole ring puts up when it sees positive defeat staring them on all sides.

The Thurston organ holds Governor Dole responsible for the Sunday camping trip of the Territorial militia and not responsible for conditions at the Insane Asylum. There may be a distinction but the organ doesn't and cannot explain the difference. The utter folly of the organ's attitude furnishes only a source of amusement.

Secretary Cooper has put the Territorial administration flatly on record in favor of Chinese labor and against American labor. This burns all bridges and lays Hawaii open to a bombardment from the laboring men as well as our old enemies who seek to wipe out by one means or another, the protection now given our sugar. Secretary Cooper certainly has a right to his opinion but as a political move his declaration is nothing if not ill advised.
