The Reno Gazette says: The nomination of Blaine makes the Republican party exceptionally strong in Nevada. The change in the prospects of the party between two years ago and now is the greatest imaginable. At that time New York had just given a Democratic majority unequaled in history, and the country seemed determined to give that party a trial at the helm of state. Various reasons have led to a great revulsion in sentiment, however, and now that party will be put to its trumps to make even a respectable showing. This state of affairs makes the responsibility of the Republican party much greater than usual, for the reason that the immense popularity of Blaine's name will carry through every man put on the ticket with him, and unless good men are nominated for the minor offices it will be a great source of danger to the future of the party. State and county affairs should be watched carefully by the people, and the primaries and conventions guarded carefully from trickery and trading. This can be done if every man does his duty.
