LIFE IN FLORIDA

Litchfield, Nov. 1.—John B. Shaw, former well known resident of Litchfield, but for a number of years past living at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, about 25 miles north of Miami, writes to E. P. Peterson about affairs there, under date of Oct. 21, relates the Independent. He was in the big storm in Florida two years ago, at which time his home was destroyed and he came near losing his life. The recent storm hit him a second time, destroying about $400 worth of crops and leaving him in poor shape financially. Mr. Shaw is 70 years of age. He says it is difficult to get work. After the storm two years ago the Red Cross rebuilt his house and gave him $35 to buy bedding and clothing, but during his stay in a hospital following injuries in that storm he had six tires and tubes and the generator stolen from his car, and they also stole his chest of carpenter tools.

Mr. Shaw was formerly a resident of the New London and Atwater communities in this county.
