THE STATE PORT

If establishing a "State Port" at Savannah will cost the people of the state nothing, as it is claimed, we are unable to see the need of so much propaganda about it.—Worth County Local

Well, those who are after the state port—those who are trying to convince Georgians that the thing to do is to put the state's credit behind the Savannah project—have made the mistake of assuming that they can have what they want by standing around the state capital and trading with the professional politician. No matter how good an acquisition of this kind may be, it comes with poor encouragement when we see its promoters trying to get state capital political endorsement. The odds are all against real merit when it becomes the creature of politics.

There may be merit in the state port project—but there isn't any merit in the plan through which it is to be procured.
