Full Text

Dr. A. E. Gourdeau was arrested on Tuesday of last week, on a charge of illegal voting—not having taken out his papers of naturalization. The examination was commenced before Justice Turnbull last week, Prosecuting Attorney, J. D. Holmes, assisted by Hon. J. D. Turnbull, conducting the prosecution, while V. C. Burnham, assisted by Frank Emerick, conducted the defense. The case was finished yesterday, the defendant being discharged, the Prosecuting Attorney stating that the evidence having established the fact that the doctor had the undoubted right to vote, and recommended his discharge. The Court stated that he was satisfied that no evidence had been established against the defendant, and he should therefore discharge him. We understand that the instigators of the prosecution will shortly cause another suit to be brought against the doctor.
