Full Text
The contest for the alderman for the Third ward was a remarkable one. The candidates were of the same political faith and both were esteemed citizens. By the election of either the voters would have acquitted themselves creditably. To choose between the two was with many persons difficult. The result is unobjectionable to all. The Alderman elect, Mr. John H. Bolton, is a gentleman of known integrity and will, we doubt not, serve the public satisfactorily. While he has more cause than is usual for gratulation his opponent may rest assured that had the other candidate not been of Captain Bolton's calibre he would have been elected by an overwhelming majority.
