Writes From France Urging Farmers of Union to Produce More Beef, Grain and Other Food Supplies and Not Only Contribute to the World's Needs But Increase Their Own Wealth.
I am anxious to say a few words to the farmers of Union county. Millions of the peoples of Europe are starving to death. The world is looking to the United States for increased production.
The more grain, beef and other food supplies Union county produces the greater will be her contribution to the needs of the world and the more rapidly will her wealth increase. Prices will be very high for a period of two to five years. With these favorable conditions every farmer ought to be able to provide the very best magazines for his children, such as Literary Digest, World's Work, Review of Reviews, Country Gentleman, Scientific American, Ladies Home Journal, Youth's Companion and numerous others.
This is a period in the history of the world when the American farmer can plan for the education of his children. Without education they cannot hold their own in the world of commerce.
The Western farmers have cooperative marketing and competent educated market experts to keep up with all markets. As a consequence they get the highest market prices for their products. They know where to find a market.
Several of the Western farmer boys from the Dakotas have recently told me that beef cattle are being sold in their states at seventeen cents a pound gross.
Union county farmers should get the best grade of cattle and then ship their products to the best markets.
I trust the year 1919 will be a great year of production and good prices for Union county. - H. D. Stewart.
