MAY LOSE JOB, SAYS CORRESPONDENT
On the front page of last week's issue, we published a communication addressed to Senator Henrik Shipstead, signed 'A subscriber,' in which he deplored the seemingly endless persecution of the United States Post Office Department in an attempt to bar The Organized Farmer from second class mailing privileges.
The writer of this communication would have gladly signed his name but requested us to withhold it for fear he might lose his job.
Our office force has been unusually busy during the past two days explaining to callers the status of our publication in reference to its mailing privileges.
Instigator Revealed
Among those callers was a representative of another publication in this county who came to tell us that they had written Congressman Andresen to lay off in using his influence at Washington in depriving The Organized Farmer from its second class mailing privileges. The representative informed us that they also had numerous subscribers on their list that were more than one year in arrears and did not want to be subjected to tactics of the Post Office Department, in dropping those names from their list as The Organized Farmer was compelled to do.
The fact that this representative of another publication in this county said, that they had notified Andresen to lay off on his nefarious practice of attempting to muzzle The Organized Farmer, certainly ought to be of sufficient proof who the instigator of the trouble is.
Dates Coincide
Shortly after The Organized Farmer published the fact that the Congressman from this district had his wife on the pay roll at a salary of $3,000 per year, when honest men and women in this country are clamoring for work, so that they may be enabled to feed their hungry families, the Post Office Department sent out questionaires asking our subscribers whether or not they had subscribed for our publication. It is self-evident that the local congressman has been conniving with the Department to silence a publication that has stated the actual facts. A publication that, it is admitted by any fair-minded man or woman, came to the rescue of the members of the city council and city attorney of this city, when council proceedings were distorted, colored and mis-construed by the publishers of other papers.
Received No Notice
We were at first cited to show cause why our second class mailing privileges should not be revoked on or before November 18; which through round about sources we learned was postponed to November 30, and later through the same sources it was again postponed to December 15th of this year.
The arbitrary tactics of the Department is shown by the fact, that we received no notice from the Department of these postponements, but was kept in touch with the situation by a representative in Washington, who personally called at the office of the Third Assistant Postmaster General for information, relative to the status of the case.
The Organized Farmer is not ashamed of its policy in the past, even to the extent of exposing a banker, who was taking advantage of widows and orphans in this city.
