Blood Money Feikens Says Democrats Only Answer is War
Prosperity with peace is the Republican objective, as opposed to the Democrat idea of prosperity with war.
State Chairman John Feikens made that clear in a talk to Upper Peninsula Republicans at Blaney Park when he pointed out that the only answer Democrats ever have found to economic ills was war.
"When the governor reported to his ClO-PAC bosses at their annual convention, he said that the Republican Party was responsible for economic recession and unemployment in Michigan," Feikens said.
"In 1937, the Democrats faced what they called a recession.' What took us out of it? World War II.
"In 1949 and 1950, there was what the Truman administration called a "readjustment', with 5,000,000 unemployed. What took us out of that? The Korean War.
"The PAC-Democrats apparently are willing to trade the blood of American boys for premium pay and overtime work. That is the choice offered to the people of Michigan by the governor, and it is proved by the facts.
Every dollar of the high wages paid in Michigan during 1950, 1951 and 1952 was balanced by a drop of some American boy's blood."
Feikens declared that the governor gave "no consideration" to the facts that the nation is not now at war; that 100,000 PEOPLE MOVED INTO MICHIGAN FROM OTHER STATES WITHIN THE PAST FEW YEARS: that the Eisenhower Administration is seeking to preserve peace and prosperity on a sound basis; that the Republican administration trimmed taxes; halted inflation; and is establishing a firm foundation for prosperity.
"The governor actually is hoping for a depression so he can benefit politically," Feikens said. "The only thing he has to offer in place of our program is war, and I think the mothers and the fathers and the youth of this nation have had enough of war.
"I hope that as they ask you for your votes for their particular brand of Democrat prosperity they will be honest enough to ask you to count your sons to see which will be sacrificed to the battlefield."
