Full Text

Heart and despised of it
Leaves for his nest the leaf among,
As bird with a broken wing
To his boyhood's home again
He crept like some guilty thing.

AT HIS
MOTHER'S
KNEE.

The peace of that home longed he,
Fell in her lap in the dear old way
Prayed as he heard at his mother's knee.

And listen once more
Like some childhood's spirit held away,
Behold at his fevered head
She did not believe that his heart was bad.
For she could not forget, you see,
Her son to be comforted

Happy

On a mother's forgiveness one sin absolve?
Prayer at his mother's knee

There sprang within him a new resolve,
A word of that dear hand
Through repentant tears that fell like rain

Old

To begin life over again
Before few years to the
Lit there at his mother's knee.
