NEW MOOSE LODGE HEADQUARTERS BE READY BY FEB. 15
During the regular meeting of the Loyal Order of Moose last night several items of interest to the membership were discussed. It was announced by the Secretary that the new lodge home in the old Nugget Shop will be ready for occupancy about Feb. 15. It is planned to hold an open house for the members and invited guests shortly after the opening, to allow as many as possible to see the fine new quarters which are an asset to the community.
The building which has been completely remodeled on the ground floor, will have the finest dance floor, cocktail room and buffet combination in the city. Sometime in the near future, construction will start in the rear of the building to widen it from the second floor in order to make room for four bowling alleys and a large dance hall and banquet room.
During the past week several out of town members visited the lodge and inspected the new home. B. L. Weiner from Missoula, Mont. joined in the refreshments served after the Women of the Moose meeting last week. E. A. Mariar and C. D. Tandy of Ketchikan visited the lodge while enroute to Kodiak. Mrs. Annabelle Laiblin and Joe N. Applying of Sitka inspected the new lodge home and stated it will be one of the finest Moose lodges in the Territory. John Ladely, who has moved to Juneau from Ketchikan, attended the meeting held last night and expressed his surprise at the increasing membership of the lodge. At this time the Juneau Lodge No. 700 has the largest Moose membership in the Territory.
During the meeting, John Matson Jr., Wayne McGee, Walter Krewson, Bernard Feero, Herman Rosenberger, Robert Secrist and Charles Davis were initiated. No more initiations are planned until the lodge occupies the new quarters, even though there are many applications on file. The quarters in the present building are too small to accommodate a large class.
John Covington, who is employed by the Juneau Cold Storage, is leaving the first of next week for his home in Brownsville, Tenn. for a two and half months stay. Covington intends to visit New Orleans during the Mardi Gras.
After the meeting, a delicious meal of fish and chips were served and enjoyed by the membership.
