MEMPHIS, January 4.—An Appeal Jackson, Miss., special says:
Every member was present at the organization of the legislature. J. M. Stone, of Alcorn, was elected president pro tem of the Senate and D. Price Potter, of Hinds, secretary. Counting Furlong, Independent, a republican, the Senate has a two-thirds Democratic majority. In the House, H. M. Street, of Prentiss, was elected speaker and Geo. M. Govan of Marshall, clerk. The office of president pro tem of the Senate becomes important from the fact that he will probably be governor as the indications are that Governor Ames and Lieutenant-Governor Davis will be impeached.
Col. Lamar, Generals Lowery and Featherston, aspirants for the U. S. Senatorship are here. Lamar is ahead, but Lowery is developing considerable strength. Featherstone will get about fifteen votes on the first ballot, all of which will afterwards go to Lowery.
The Governor's message, which was read this afternoon, gives considerable offense and is spoken of as falsifying the conduct of citizens prior to the late election and magnifying incidents connected with the campaign of which it is largely made up.
