We hear from Taunton, that a few Days ago as one Mr. Sprague was passing from that Town thro' Free- town, with a Load of Butter and Cheese in a Horse Cart, put up in an uncommon Box, which caused an Old Woman to be very inquisitive to know What he had got in it, but he seeming unwilling to satisfy her Curi- osity, made her still more anxious, and at last upon her promising in the strongest Manner that she would not expose him, he told her, that he had got the Stamp'd Paper there, and was going to leave it at one Mr. Crans's, an Inn-Keeper in Dartmouth ; upon which he said she was very sorry to hear it, but again promised not to divulge the Secret : Mr: Sprague then went on selling his Butter and Cheese till be got near Mr. Crans's House, which be found surrounded by several Hundred People, who had threatened to pull it down, and upon his approach was also surrounded by the Multitude, who demanded the Box to be opened ; but upon discovering nothing but Butter & Cheese, and Mr. Crans allowing them to search his House, their Rage was mitigated, and after some Expostulation they dispersed.
