Full Text

The following article of intelligence may be depended on: Governor Hornby, of Bombay, has wrote to England that he sent out a vessel from Bombay to Sable Island near the Mauritius, which arrived off that island in June last, where the crew discovered some people on the island, and also an appearance of a ship's mast, with a red cloth or flag at the head; but though the vessel was in soundings near the island, the weather was so tempestuous they were obliged to return to Bombay, without being able to send a boat on shore, or get intelligence who the people were: however, by the help of their spying glass, the people appeared to be Europeans, but most afflicted without clothing, they were 30 in number.

About two years ago a similar account was given by a French ship near the above island, and whose opinion was, that they appeared like Europeans. Governor Hornby intends to fit out the same vessel, or another, to go to Sable Island, at a season when the weather is not so tempestuous. From these accounts it is not improbable that some advices respecting the Aurora's pigs may be received, as it is generally supposed they took that route near the Mauritius.
