Sportswear Strike Settlement Culminates With Love Feast

STRESSING the fact that the ILGWU fights when it has to but when the fighting is over and the strike settled, they give their wholehearted support to helping the struck plant back onto its feet, Samuel Macy, general manager of the Miami Joint Council, ILGWU, keynoted the theme of the banquet last Thursday night at the Seven Seas Restaurant. Guests at the banquet consisted of striking members of the Local from the Miami Sportswear Inc, with which company a new contract has been signed after eight months strike. members of the Miami Sportswear, Inc., officers of the Miami Joint Council and the speaker of the evening, International Vice President John S Martin of Chattanooga, Tenn. WE, the workers of the Miami Sportswear Company, of Miami, Florida, at the contract ratification meeting, in which we secured a fine agreement in settlement of our strike, as well as a back pay settlement, and agreement with the Company which permits a court order to be entered against it, and

SINCE we well know that our eight months of picketing to establish our Union in this plant would not have been successful if it were not for the full and wholehearted co-operation and inspired leadership of our International President David Dubinsky, and the financial support of the International, and

SINCE we are delighted and pleased with the successful settlement which has been achieved as the result of this fine support which was given our strike and our fight by President Dubinsky,

IT is this day resolved that we, the workers of the Miami Sportswear Company unanimously express our deep and sincere appreciation of the leadership, help and backing given our strike by President Dubinsky, and the International, and we pledge our continued efforts to make this shop the best Union shop in Miami, and to assist in the further organization of the unorganized in this market.
