Dunham Denies Romance Rumor
Hollywood May 18 - Katherine Dunham, the dancer often regarded as having the most beautiful body, said last week that she wanted it known she has a husband and she is not 45 years old.
A magazine once splashed the rumor that her latest love was Aly Khan, and that she was the beautiful reason why his marriage to Rita Hayworth failed to sprout solidly before it faded. Before that she was linked with director something.
To top this, she complained, local columnists, scribbled that she was every bit of 45 when she opened in Los Angeles recently.
"I have been married since 1941" said Miss Dunham. Her husband, John Pratt, sat on a couch in her dressing room. He smiled and remained silent.
"I don't know how these rumors started," she said, "the Prince is a friend. He likes our music so I dedicated a record album to him. I've known Aly Khan for years."
She further deplores the way Americans, and especially Hollywood actresses make fetish of age: "Americans are so preoccupied with age!" she exclaimed. "People say about me, she must be at least 50'. It's the American desire to cling to youth. It seems a shame for people in this country to be so worried about their age."
When Driving To Vicksburg in Europe. I think it's because America still is very young as a country. They have not yet learned to approach maturity."
