CLAY VICTORIES
The victories of the Clay party during the present year have swelled into a perfect triumph. In Missouri, Anti-bank men were elected Governor & Lieutenant Governor, a large majority of similar materials to the Legislatures and an avowed friend of the President to Congress—and they shouted VICTORY! In Indiana for the first time, the Jackson party elected a majority of Jackson men to the State Legislature, and the Claymen shouted VICTORY! In Kentucky the Jackson men succeeded in electing their candidate for Governor against all the powers of the Bank; and the Clay men shouted VICTORY! In Maine, the Clay candidate for Governor was defeated by more than four thousand, and nearly two thirds of the Legislature elected, in favor of Jackson, and the Clay men shouted VICTORY! In Pennsylvania, the Clay men, knowing they could not elect a Governor of their own faith, threw their whole weight into the antimasoinc scale, and when signally defeated by the re-election of George Wolf against the coalition, Bank and all, they more loudly than ever shout VICTORY. Now, that after surrendering to the antimasons in Ohio, and being beaten seven thousand votes, and in a majority of Members of Congress and of the Legislature, we expect to hear them make the welkin ring with VICTORY! VICTORY! And in November, when they shall have secured to Mr. Clay forty electoral votes out of two hundred and eighty-eight, if they act out their true character through this contest, they will let us hear nothing for three months to come but shouts of VICTORY! VICTORY! VICTORY! Well, we shall be content to see our invaluable President re-elected and Martin Van Buren placed over the Senate by more than two hundred electoral votes, and leave our opponents to enjoy the fruits of their 'signal victories' during this campaign.
