THE CONSTITUTION.--The proposed Constitution, framed by the late Constitutional Convention, will be found on the 4th page of this day's paper, and we invite every reader to give it a thorough and candid examination. So far as we can learn, this Constitution is approved of by all the friends of law, order, and good government throughout the State, and will be voted for by them. It is as free, as regards the right of suffrage as the most ultra even of the Suffrage party in the first instance desired, and it is certainly free enough to suit the views of all who are honest in their professions for a liberal extension--especially in reference to native born citizens. In its other provisions, there is perhaps as little to find fault with as in any other Constitution that ever has been or that could be framed, to suit the views and wishes of the people at large. Though there are some features in it that we could have wished otherwise, (one, for instance, the choice of Justices by the towns,) still, as a whole, we shall go for it--and cannot but hope that every good citizen, who does not wish to have the direful scenes of the past summer acted over again, will also come forward and give it his approving vote, and thereby contribute to restore to our disturbed State its wonted peace and happiness. Those who have been contending for an extension of the right of suffrage, and persist in opposing this Constitution, will show that their professions, to say the least, are sadly at variance with their practice, and the consequences of its defeat, (if such an unhappy event should occur,) must be upon their own heads.
