Coroner Cotton held an inquest on the body of a negro named Aleck who died from want and exposure in a negro groggery near the foot of Jefferson street kept by John Sturla. The place was intolerably stenchy and filthy, with garbage that could produce disease. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the facts and added a note calling for reform in such places. Sturla was arrested and fined fifteen dollars in the Police Court this morning.
