The Federal census report on voting school and militia ages shows these results for Maryland. Males of voting age, 531,903; native born, 279,216; foreign born, 42,687; total white, 260,979; native white, 218,968; foreign white, 42,011; total negro, 60,406, and other colored, 518. The native and foreign born literate and illiterate males of voting age are classed as follows: Native born literate, 243,577, and native born illiterate 35,639; foreign born literate, 37,974, and foreign born illiterate 4,713.
