Very heavy falls of rain, and high freshets, were experienced in South Carolina and Georgia, the beginning of April. Much damage was done to the plantations, many negroes and cattle drowned, several bridges destroyed, and large quantities of corn, rice, &c. washed away. In the district the Judges, &c. assembled to open the Circuit-Court--but the place appointed by law for holding the same, was many feet under water--which circumstance obliged the Judges to order the crier to pass to the spot in a canoe, and open and adjourn the Court from day to day--of course no business was done.
