Full Text

Is it worth our while to remind "Republicans" of what the Democrats prophesied would come to pass in the event of Grant's election? It hardly pays for the waste of ink and paper, to appeal to the treacherous memory or the hardened conscience of such slaves to party as "Republicans" have proved themselves to be: nevertheless, it is our duty so to do, and we shall perform our duty, even toward such sodden asses and contemptible knaves as vote for the destruction of the Constitution and the civil oppression of ten millions of their fellow citizens.

Well, Mr. Republican, we told you before the election, that if Grant were chosen President, the Radicals would claim his election as an endorsement of their doctrines in regard to the Negro.

You did not believe us.

Or, if you did believe us, you voted a lie, for you declared that you would not vote for "Negro Suffrage."

Now, where are you? Your leading newspapers already clamor for the enfranchisement of the blacks in all the States. Forney's Press now says you must give the negroes the ballot everywhere. You have elected Grant and you have forced Negro Suffrage on Pennsylvania, unless you go to work and check your own leaders.

Did we deceive you? Was our prediction not true? Come, now, if you have any manhood left within you, acknowledge that your party has sold you again, as it has every time it got a new lease of power.

Democrats of Bedford county! You have done nobly in glorious future before you; slacken not your efforts in the cause you love! It is a long lane that has no turn, and there is a turn in the Radical lane which will be reached before long. "Hope springs eternal in the human breast!"

We feel it our duty to compliment the Democrats of Monroe, Napier, Schellsburg, Saxton and Woodberry borough, on the handsome gains made in their districts over the October election. Well done friends and thank you for your devotion to principle.

John Cessna is tearing mad because he run behind the Radical candidate for Surveyor in Bedford county. We advise him to take "Mrs. Winslow's Soothing syrup, which reduces inflammation, cures wind colic and corrects acidity." Valley Spirit.
