Extract of a Letter from a Gentleman of Character, dated London, April 6.
Sir, Nothing satisfactory, and fully justifies the Verdict given by the Jury. I confess I did not expect to find the Evidence, in all Respects, as favourable as it now turns out.
Parliament is entirely taken up with Attention to Riots, and other Insults on its Privileges. I fancy the Accounts of them appear more formidable in the Colonies, from our Newspapers, than, in Truth, they are in themselves. Important Consequences are not, I believe, to be feared from them; yet they are, at present, very vexatious and provoking.
The States of Europe are all armed, and ready for War. If not disposed to it, it is possible at least they may be involved in a War with very little Notice, which makes it therefore necessary we should be provided for it. This Provision takes up much Time of Parliament.
