Hogeland-Turner Protest Against Part Time Operations of Depot

Representatives of the Great Northern Railway and the Turner Hogeland community went before the Montana Railroad Commission Monday, June 24 to present arguments that depot agents at Turner and Hogeland be put back on full time basis. The hearing opened at 10 a.m. in the Turner I.O.O.F. hall.

On April 22, office hours of the Great Northern Railway agents at Hogeland and Turner were changed to a part time basis. Hogeland depot was open from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday except holidays. Turner depot was open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, except holidays.

Appearing for the Railway case were Mr. Richardson, comptroller St. Paul, Minnesota; A. J. Surles, Supt. of Great Northern Railway Company, Great Falls; Mr. Hall, vice statistician, from St. Paul; John Frisvold of Harlem and Attorney George of Helena.

Senator Richard Nixon presented views for the community. Mr. Griffiths, vice president of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers was present and also his associate: I. C. Ellis. Both presented the depot agent's point of view in this dispute by bringing out some of the inconveniences caused by the change in hours. Several witnesses appeared for the community.

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 4:30 p.m. having been taken under advisement by the Montana Railroad Commission. Decision will be reached pending study.
