The New York Sun is determined that we shall have a war with Mexico. The editor of that great paper has already seen some of the fierce and bloody engagements that are soon to dye the banks of the Rio Grande, in crimson gore—in his mind. The Sun of the 24th inst. has the following: The situation is daily becoming more critical on the Mexican border. President Diaz has issued an order to the Mexican commander on the Rio Grande to repel any invasion of our troops; and he has sent there Gen. Trevino, with a force of 2500 men to carry out the order. This decisive action has alarmed Gen. Ord, who telegraphs to Washington for reinforcements of cavalry. The War Department has refused to furnish information about Ord's demand; but takes the trouble to say that it does not appear an application has been made for forces to meet the anticipated collision with the Mexican troops. As a matter of course, the business is kept secret at the War Department; but the despatch from San Antonio, which gives the gist of the order issued by President Diaz, from the official copy sent to Gen. Ord, conveys the news of the call made upon the War Department by Gen. Ord, as soon as he learned of Diaz's action. We have no doubt of the truth of the despatch from Gen. Ord's headquarters. The state of things upon the Rio Grande has thus become extremely perilous, and hostilities may any day be precipitated. It is but a short time since our troops made several raids upon Mexican soil; but another raid cannot be made without war.
