Mr. Crawford and Mr. Andrews, sent by the United States' Bank to Mexico for negotiations, were attacked by 25 banditti near Puebla on their return to Alvarado. Initial escort of 25 armed men under Capt. Murray was replaced by 12 inferior guards, most of whom deserted. The robbers, led by deserters, captured and robbed the party.
