NEW HIGHWAY FROM STATE
BUILDINGS TO ARLINGTON

A new highway from the state institutions in Cranston to the Arlington section is one of the changes to be effected by the laying of the 42-inch water main from Sockanosset to Olneyville.
The original plan was to lay the big main in the Sockanosset cross-road through Knightsville, but this roundabout route was abandoned when the right of way through the Budlong farm was obtained by the city of Providence.
The location of the main will be utilized for highway purposes, and a new road of easy grade will open up an extensive territory now without direct access to the city and the locality served by Reservoir avenue at the Sockanosset end.
The big pipes have been laid along the route for the greater part of the distance, and some parts of the course have been graded.
The total cost of the water mains is to be $245,000.
