Forced by Mob to Tar Girl, Wife Says

FREDERICK, Md. - Mrs. Mary Shank, who pleaded guilty to tarring and feathering Dorothy Grandon, 20, at Myersville last July, took the witness stand for the state at her own request Tuesday and testified that Harry Leatherman, on trial on the same charge, organized the mob which attacked the girl. Mrs. Shank said it had been her intention to beat Miss Grandon, who, she alleged, was too friendly with Lloyd Shank, her husband. She admitted striking the girl three times with a club, and said she participated in the tarring and feathering only after being threatened by the men of the mob.
