Twelve Boy Scouts of the local organization, under the guidance of Assistant Scoutmaster E. E. Kirkpatrick, Verner Blair and J. B. Lee, enjoyed a hike the latter part of last week. They left White Bluffs evening and camped that night at Wahluke. Early the next morning they hiked to the high peak on Saddle Mountain, reaching that point about noon, and there ate their lunch.
From there they went on to Jericho, in the Crab Creek Valley on the north side of the mountain, where they camped Saturday night. Sunday morning they visited Ice Cave near there and hiked on to the Gap below Beverly, where they were met by A. C. Wade with his truck, and he brought them home, arriving in White Bluffs about 8 o'clock Sunday night.
On the hike the boys found a number of fine arrowheads and moonstones. They also killed three rattlesnakes, one of which had 11 rattles. From the high peak on Saddle Mountain to the Gap they kept track of the native flowers they saw growing wild and counted a total of 58 varieties. The boys bedding was carried on two pack horses in charge of Verner Blair and Mr. Lee, and each scout carried his own grub.
The boys say this hike was the most successful and enjoyable they have ever made. This was the last hike for Mr. Kirkpatrick here, as he will teach elsewhere next year.
