The members of the Virginia Legislature gave a dinner on the 20th ult. to Gen. John Floyd, (a representative in Congress then on a visit to Richmond) and to Wm. B. Giles. The latter was prevented by ill health from attending. The 4th toast was in honor of Gen. Floyd, who rose and after a brief address, gave the following sentiment:

The People of Virginia—The General Assembly spoke their sentiments in '98 to the elder Adams: their successors speak the same language to his son in 1827.

The toast next in order was

Wm. B. Giles, the able debater: the distinguished veteran in the public service; the same moral courage which in '99 contributed so essentially to overthrow one mad administration, will assist us in 1827 in prostrating another.

John Randolph—As an orator unrivalled, as a patriot peerless. An enlightened district will return him by acclamation to the theatre of his glory.

The following are selected from the volunteers:

By Major George, of Tazewell. Gen. Andrew Jackson, the statesman and warrior—be who defended well his country in the hour of peril: may the highest gift within the power of the people be his reward.

By Thomas Ritchie [of the Enquirer.] Henry Clay, a son of Virginia, the brilliant orator, the man of genius: now, the Secretary of State under John Q. Adams—who,

Like the base Judean, threw a pearl away,

Richer than all his tribe.

A large number of volunteer toasts were given; among others, the fourteen senators who protested against the appointment of Henry Clay as Secretary of State.
