Full Text
A meeting of the Democratic citizens of the county was held at the Court-House in this village on Tuesday evening last. It was numerously attended, about one hundred and twenty five being present—we have never seen more spirit, animation or unanimity prevail at a public assemblage in Bradford county. Some of the oldest and most respectable citizens were present. Clement Payne one of the patriarchs of the country, who had rendered services in the old reign of terror, and who was a Madison elector in 1812, was called to the chair. A committee was appointed to draft resolutions expressive of the sense of the meeting on the Presidential election—who reported resolutions disapproving the manner in which the voice of the people was disregarded in the late election of President by the House of Representatives of the extravagant waste of public money in furnishing the President's House, purchase of Billiard Table, &c. and expressive of the high confidence of the meeting in the talents, and republican principles of Gen. Andrew Jackson.—They were all carried after a few remarks by several gentlemen present without a dissenting vote, and the last was accompanied by three hearty cheers.—Settler.
