New Year's Celebrations
Tonight
If you want to ring the Old Year out - or welcome the New Year in you'll have no trouble finding a gay place to do it in tonight in Key West.
Clubs, hotels, bars and cocktail lounges throughout the city are offering all sorts of gala entertainment for the New Year's Eve celebrations.
For naval officers and their wives and friends there will be celebrations at the Fort Taylor Officers' Club, Aeropalms on the Seaplane Base and at Echoasis in the Sonar School BOQ.
A buffet dinner will be served at Fort Taylor beginning at 7 o'clock. Dancing will begin at 9 o'clock and continue until 2 a.m. to the music of the Fleet Sonar School Band. Hats, favors, noisemakers, etc., will add to the gaiety of ringing in 1952.
All officers of all the flying squadrons are especially invited to Aeropalms for a New Year's party sponsored by the club. Ruby Crowley's band will play for the party. Breakfast of eggs, bacon and coffee will be served at 1 a.m. Guests are asked to bring their own liquor and the club will furnish the set-ups free.
Officers from Fleet Sonar School will begin the New Year's celebration with cocktails at 5 o'clock this afternoon on the Echoasis patio and will proceed from there to the Fort Taylor party.
Both the Casa Marina hotel and the La Concha hotel are also offering big New Year's celebrations.
Dinner will be served at the Casa Marina from 8 to 10 o'clock, followed by dancing on the patio to the music of George Maryins' orchestra. Filet mignon will be served. Dining and dancing will be in the hotel dining room from 8 to 10 o'clock, followed by dancing on the patio. Burt and Happy, hotel dance team, will perform. There will be other entertainment.
Dancing will be in the Rainbow Room at the La Concha. Gerry Pinders' orchestra will furnish the music. Dancing will begin at 9:30 o'clock. The Monroe County Cerebral Palsy Association is sponsoring the affair. Door prizes will be given.
Gus Ayala and his band will play for dinner and dancing at Raul's on the boulevard. Dinner will be served from 9 o'clock tonight until midnight. All the usual hats, noisemakers, etc., will be given to all the guests. A feature of the celebration will be a midnight balloon dance.
Dancing at the American Legion home on Stock Island will begin at 10 o'clock with music by Norman Kranich and his band.
Sylvia and Mark Stanley's orchestra will furnish the music for the dance and party at Wylks on Stock Island.
If you spend New Year's at The Trade Winds, you can enjoy dinner and dancing on the patio or celebrating in the cocktail lounge. Johnny Myers will be master of ceremonies for the evening and Ed Staley will play the piano. Viola Veidt will be featured as vocalist.
Logan's Ocean Patio, the former South Beach Restaurant, announces they will have open house tonight for dining and celebrating on their patio.
