A contemporary thanks Congress
for the industry with which it grappled
with affairs. Yes, and with
which it grappled the tax payers by
their throats. It was a case of pig-
iron instigating the grappling irons!

The great aim of the Globe is to
unite the people. This done, there
will then be time to talk about all
side issues. Unite on anti-monopoly;
go to Chicago and select your name.

Did you ever notice how quick
congress responds to the petitions of
the railroads and other rich monop-
olies? And how long has it been
since the soldiers petitioned for the
equalization of bounties and yet the
petition has not been granted.

The national banking system is a
privileged one—it is a free gift on
the part of Congress of the credit of
the whole people for the benefit of
the few; to those who are in a posi-
tion to make such a gift profitable.
It is misleading to say the system is
a free one, for in its very freedom
lies its injustice—freedom for those
whose means are such that they can
start business upon the credit of the
whole people, and then tax the whole
community in the shape of interest
for the use of a circulating medium
based on the credit of the whole
people.

Henri Cernuschi says that "money
is a value created by law to be a
scale of valuation, and a valid ten-
der for debts."

By no amount of reasoning or log-
ic can a sovereign government be
justified in creating an opportunity
for the few, by granting them the
power to take from the many who
produce by labor, and convey it to
those who neither labor nor produce.

"Divorce of banks from the state,"
was the cry of a pair of old political
heroes, champions of honesty, liber-
ty, and the rights of the masses—
Jefferson and Jackson.

A correspondent at Brazil, Indiana,
asks: "Are there any fire-escapes to
Hades?" There are many, but the
only one we can recommend is for
you to vote the anti-monopoly tick-
et.

If civil and religious liberty are to
be guaranteed, a government by the
people maintained, and institutions
truly republican and democratic,
perpetuated, the success of the prin-
ciples of the National party is of par-
amount importance; and as reforms
cannot be carried out in a republic
outside of a party, the National par-
ty has been organized as an instru-
ment to restore justice to the masses
and to protect free government.
