Deadline Brings Out Last-Minute Filings For July 15 Primary
MORE SEEKING REPRESENTATIVE SENATE POSTS
TOTAL OF 3,724 PERSONS QUALIFIED TO CAST BALLOTS IN ROOSEVELT COUNTY AT PRIMARY JULY 15.
Late filings in the Roosevelt County Clerk and Recorder's office filled in the gap created last week by the withdrawal of Oliver M. Lien, Brockton, from the State Senatorial race and Robert E. (Pete) Coffey, Wolf Point, who previously sought election as State Representative.
Reid Taylor of Wolf Point, opposes Mike M. Vukelich, Wolf Point, for nomination as State Senator on the Republican ticket. He filed for office Saturday afternoon, prior to the deadline. Goodwin Bergh of Froid, who filed Friday, is unopposed on the Democratic ticket.
C. R. Casterline of Culbertson, Democrat, and Chris S. Tange, Poplar, Republican, entered the State Representative race opposing Willard C. Ruggles, Republican, by filing in the Clerk and Recorder's office Friday.
John F. Bayuk of Poplar, Republican, also entered the election picture by filing his petition for nomination as county attorney in opposition to William B. McCracken of Wolf Point, Republican.
Other new filings include Ralph Wing, Democrat, and I. L. Ramstad, Republican, for Justice of the Peace, Poplar Township; Elna N. Wallander of Froid, committeewoman and Selnar B. Wallander, Froid, committeeman, of Precinct 10; Mrs. Beatrice Smith of Brockton and George Washington, Brockton, Precinct 15, and Frank R. Hanel of Wolf Point, Precinct 25.
No one filed for election as County Treasurer, prior to Saturday's deadline. Electors may fill in names for this position on the County ballots at the primary July 15.
Local positions to be filled follow: One Judge of the District Court, one State Senator, one State Representative, one County Commissioner (six year term), one County Commissioner (two year term), one County Treasurer (two year), one County Assessor (two year term), one County Attorney and one Clerk of the District Court.
Also elected will be two Justices of the Peace and two Constables for each judicial township in Roosevelt County; one Committeeman and one Committeewoman of each political party for each precinct.
The election will be held from 12 noon until 7 p.m. July 15. A total of 3,724 persons are qualified to cast their ballots in Roosevelt County's primary. This is about 1,000 over the total number of eligible voters in the last election.
