"KEY WEST"
By MELVIN PIATT

Oh! Gem of the sea,
In thy beauty so rare,
None other in fairness,
To thee can compare.

Like a pearl set in velvet.
Of ocean so blue,
Like a pendent, bridge chained,
By key islands too.

Where the balmy spiced breezes,
Perpetual, blow,
Fills the air with fragrance,
Where ever you go.

With the soft sunlight glinting.
Through beautiful trees,
Invite all to comfort.
Contentment and ease

Thy self contained beauty,
Within and around
Combined with good nature,
In thy people abound.

Makes thy welcome complete,
To the traveling guest.
Whether from the north,
The east or the west.

All races, and classes.
And color, and creed.
Freely welcome the guest,
And supply him his need.

No more beautiful city.
Where e'er they may be,
Than quaint, old Key West.
The gem of the sea.

17 Reservoir Ave.,
Port Jervis, N. Y.
