Glorifying Yourself
By ALICIA HART
For a petal-smooth complexion and the bright-eyed look of a movie star, try eating nothing but fresh fruits and vegetables one day a week.
Your system needs an occasional vacation from a heavy diet, just as you require a yearly holiday from hard work.
If you are fond of crisp greens and fruits, you might try Ida Lupino's trick. "I go on a salad binge one week a month," says the star. "My system seems to require an occasional rest from so much solid food, and several days of eating salads gives my skin a healthy glow and sends my vitality way up."
There's plenty of variety to be had too, Ida insists. "If you eat a fruit salad for lunch, then make vegetables, eggs or shell fish the main ingredient of your dinner salad," she recommends.
Here are a few combinations which may hit your fancy, as they have Ida's:
Put fresh sliced peaches, cherries, pears and blueberries on a mound of lettuce and top with cottage cheese; mix boiled egg, tomatoes, radishes, cheese and lettuce with French dressing; combine alligator pear, shrimp and grapefruit sections and serve on lettuce with dressing.
