We are surrounded by events which call for the most serious consideration. The crisis is alarming, and the dangers to the country, to character, to the Union, are imminent. We cannot even think of anything but politics. Are our posterity destined to be the slaves of a foreign power? Can we be so blind as to sacrifice everything to party? We hear that we care nothing for the public weal, but only for party. If we are true to the end, there is danger to party, to character, to the Union, and we cannot work successfully out of it, unless we seek harder heavenward.
