TOKYO (A.P.)--Greater Tokyo with

economic and transportation aggre-

square miles, Greater London's 700
square miles or Greater New York's
299 square miles.
Japanese newspapers claim that

to make a greater city that counts
2,330,000 inhabitants in 68.8 square
miles, almost three times the area
of Tokyo proper.
The figures quoted for Tokyo were

City and national authorities are studying plans to incorporate 84 surrounding towns and villages with Tokyo, doubling its population from 2,218,000 to nearly five million and creating an administrative unit for the existing economic and transportation aggregation. Japanese newspapers claim it would be second largest after Greater New York, but overlooks Greater London; Tokyo has regained first place among Japanese cities over Osaka, which has 2,330,000 in 68.8 square miles following 1923 earthquake.
