Event Details
At the breaking out of the late Revolution in France, there was no organized National Guard, which had been disbanded about three years ago by order of Louis 18th, but it spontaneously reorganized, with Gen. Lafayette, its old commander from 1794, called back to command. The King's Body Guard consisted of about twenty thousand men, including some Swiss, while regiments of the line and Gendarmes were other regular forces.
