Republican State Convention,
By reference to notice it will be seen that a State Convention of the Republican party has been called at Iowa City, on Wednesday, August 19th. Our county convention which is to assemble Saturday, July 11, to nominate candidates for county officers, can at the same time elect Delegates to the State Convention. Of this convention, the Iowa City Republican says:—"The necessity for such consultation and action as is contemplated, is too obvious to require argumentation. Such a convention is indispensably necessary whatever may be the result of the vote on the New Constitution; and as there is little room to doubt its adoption, by a large majority, the committee have acted wisely in calling a convention at this early day.—There was general complaint at the brevity of the notice given of the late State Convention. To wait until after the result of the August vote is ascertained, before calling State Convention, would allow little more than a month for preparation for the anticipated Gubernatorial contest in October, under the New Constitution.—There is now ample time for preparation for the convention, for an interchange of sentiment in all portions of the State, and the appointment of Delegates."
