Dorman Batton, 21, and C. L. Lowman, 30, both of this county, were severely injured late last Saturday afternoon when their car ran into a telephone pole on the old Inverness road where the road leads into Road No. 5 about two miles north of town.
Batton was in a critical condition for some time after the accident receiving several deep lacerations about the skull and cuts and bruises over his body. Lowman received a deep gash on his right arm and a few cuts about the head. Both men were in the Hernando hospital for several days.
Lowman, the driver of the small coupe, stated at the hospital that the accident happened when he was forced to turn out of the road for a large truck to pass. He lost control of the machine when the wheels left the pavement and the car crashed into the pole. Both men were thrown out of the automobile by the impact. They were picked up in an unconscious condition several yards from the car. A motorist hurried to Brooksville and notified Garnetts, who brought the injured men to the hospital in their ambulance.
