DRUMMING OUT.--A private of the 83d was
drummed out of his regiment, on the 7th inst., at
Kingston, U. C. He had been a most incor-
rigible scoundrel, having been punished some
half dozen times, both by courts civil and mar-
tial, and it was found necessary, at last, to give
him a dishonorable discharge. He was placed
in the centre of a hollow square, formed by the
regiment, and a list of his crimes was read
over. After this was done, the regimental tai-
lor proceeded to strip him of his military insig-
nia, the seams on his trowsers, the facings,
buttons, &c. A rope was then thrown round
his neck, and the regiment being drawn up in
two lines, facing inward, he was marched its
whole length, followed by the band, playing that
sentimental air, "The Rogue's March." Ar-
rived at the end of the lines, the poor devil re-
ceived his freedom, and ran off amid the jeers
of the spectators. He was refused admittance
into all the public houses, which fact adds much
to the prospect of his reformation. Boston
