By a Vessel from Barbados, we are informed, that they sailed from thence the 22d August, in Company with a Number of other Vessels: under Convoy of a Sloop of War commanded by Captain Douglas, Brother to the Commodore of that Name, and the Barbados arm'd Brig : 'That on the 20th. about 8 o'Clock in the Morning, being very clear, the Sloop of War suddenly disappeared ; the Vessels observing something like a Boat near where the Sloop was, made towards it ; but found that it was only the Top of one of the Sails, as they suppos'd, of the Sloop as She was sinking. This Sloop of War was a very long sharp Vessel, and by her being a good sailer, had been of great Service in taking the Enemy's Privateers: It is suppos'd that being over-masted was the Occasion of her sinking ; whereby the People's Lives were lost.
