While his wife was out of the room this morning, preparing for breakfast, he went to a pail of water, where his wife found him drinking when she returned. She soon observed some white substance in the water; but thinking it was merely some magnesia, she drank some of the water, as did two of the children. She sickened immediately, but was soon relieved; and the children (one of 8 and the other about three years old) are in a fair way of recovery.
The wretchedly filthy condition of the block or buildings where this family reside with many others, is alone almost enough to destroy human life. There is yet room for much more progress in the Temperance reformation.
The verdict of the Jury was in accordance with the above facts—“Suicide, by taking poison, after a long fit of drunkenness.—Roch. Eve. Post.
