New-York, September 3.

By the packet Alonzo, captain Westcott, we learn that the result of the election in Rhode Island, which took place on Tuesday last, for the members of Congress and State Legislators, has been favorable to Federalism. In Newport, where the republican majority has been 80, there was a majority of 50 in favour of the Federal candidates; in Providence, a federal majority of 350; in Jamestown, a federal majority of 7; Middletown and Portsmouth were divided.—

The other towns had not been heard from.
