[Kensett News.]

The agricultural department at Washington is carrying on a vigorous campaign in favor of wide wagon tires. In a recent bulletin, after showing how the narrow tire cuts up the meadows of the farmers, as well as destroys the roads, the writer goes on to say:

"Wide tires are road makers; they roll and harden the surface and every loaded wagon becomes in effect a road maker. Tests recently made at the experiment stations in Utah and Missouri show that wide tires not only improve the surface of the roads, but that under ordinary circumstances less power is required to pull a wagon on which wide tires are used." This is not new; it is known to all intelligent farmers, but coming with the stamp of authority of an official bulletin it is to be hoped that it will produce an appreciable effect. The farmer should learn that the best investment he can make for the amount involved is the purchase of vehicles with wide tired wheels. It is said that an adjustable wide metallic tire has made its appearance on the market which can be placed on any narrow tired wheel at a cost of $2 each. If this is the case there is no longer any excuse for anybody attempting to draw heavy loads on narrow tired vehicles.
