Full Text

HON. HENRY CLAY.—Many of our citizens were disappointed in not seeing Mr Clay during his visit to our city.— He arrived here on Saturday evening, attended church on Sabbath, and in the evening the Sultana came up the river, and he was sent for, and barely had time to get on board before she left, giving Mr. C. no time to visit several of his acquaintances, and many of our citizens were not aware of his arrival. Many gentlemen from the country were here on Saturday and on yesterday to pay their respects. He is gone to St. Louis, and may Providence protect him wherever he goes.

Many of his political opponents were as anxious to pay their respects to him as his friends.
