Whether city employees, including firemen, policemen and street department executives are elected at the City Council meeting next Monday or at the regular meeting the fourth Monday night in June, indications at this time are that there will be few changes. If present members of the three units are to be displaced, members of the Council were so tight-lipped about it that nothing was heard generally in that respect.
Members of the Council chosen for two-year terms at the annual municipal election May 2 will be given the oath along with Mayor Henry T. Powell, who was re-elected for a second term of two years. Only one change in the elective personnel of the administration will be made, B. H. Hicks taking the oath as alderman from the second ward.
At the meeting next Monday, the Council will elect its own members to various departmental supervisor-ships and also will name the city clerk, the assistant city clerk, the city attorney and the mayor pro tem. Fred B. Hight is the present mayor pro tem. City Clerk S. B. Burwell and W. G. Royster, assistant city clerk, are expected to be re-elected, as is also A. A. Bunn as city attorney.
The fact that there is only one change in Council membership is taken as an indication that few, if any changes will be made in city personnel, including the water department.
Mayor Powell is preparing a brief address to be given at the inaugural meeting, in which he is expecting to set forth certain proposals and policies for the new administration.
