Full Text
Occasioned by a young Lady weeping on hearing the Author read Paradise Lost.
Cease to lament Eve's fall with tearful eyes,
Her fault should make succeeding daughters wise;
Yet view the Sex, e'en now they thoughtless stray,
Where wild imprudence points the devious way.
Art's abject slaves, capricious fashion's tools!
The dupes of gamblers, and the sport of fools!--
Let conscious virtue o'er your heart preside,
Controul each thought, and every action guide;
Then, in your BREAST shall Eden bloom anew,
And long lost Paradise revive in you.
